So I have to post this observation, for those of you out there who think that the police (myself included) are singling out persons of color. 2 nights ago, my first night back from furlough, Im in my office, when all of the sudden I hear yelling, coming from the front desk. I can hear the desk sergeant yelling, Ok, its time for you to leave! Get out of here now! I walk out of the office, to witness the white desk sergeant escorting 2 young black males to the front door. I follow him, the 2 guys and 2 female officers (one white, one Hispanic), working the desk, outside. I ask what happened. The sergeant tells me that the 2 guys came in, asking about the arrest status of one of the guys girlfriend. The Hispanic female explains the process to the BF and then tells him that when his GFs fingerprints clear, shell get a bond, but she wont know what kind until her prints clear. She also tells him that it could take anywhere from an hout to 8 hours for her prints to clear...she has no control over that. Apparently this explaination isnt good enough for the boyfriend and he proceeds to ask the same questions several times, each time becoming more and more billigerant and disrespectful towards the officer. Having enough of this guys antics, the sergeant tells the young man he has to leave, as he is causing a disturbance and being disrespectful to the officer. Since a police station is a place of business, unlike on the streets, if someone is causing what we feel is a disturbance to OUR peace, we are allowed to ask them to leave and have the discretion to arrest them. While outside, the BF starts yelling at the sergeant, calling him a f*cking n*gger and other names. I tell the sergeant to go back inside. The young man continues to yell and posture, saying things like, Thats why yall are in the position yall in now! F*ck you! Yall bogus! I tell the young man, Dude, its time for you to go or go to jail! Finally, his friend grabs him and starts dragging him towards their car, all the while, putting on a show for anyone who is out there. I go back inside, thinking, You came to MY HOUSE, asking for information. You got it and because you didnt like what you heard, YOU proceed to disrespect US?! People, there are 2 sides to every story and this is the side the media or wronged citizens never tell you about.
