So, I hired a guy to do the tile in the basement bathroom after I determined that it was a bigger job than I could take on. Due to start on the 14th and finish the 15th, he called the previous Friday and asked if he could start on Saturday the 12th, because he was going out of town on the 15th and wanted to get the job done. Sure, I said, Just have it done before you leave. Ive got a guy waiting to move in. You have my word! (I should have known better) As you might imagine, problems ensued and he didnt get the job done. Last Sunday, the 20th, he returned to work more on the job. Then he was back yesterday, working until late in the night. I had pushed my renter back a number of times by now, finally drawing a line in the sand at this Wednesday (tomorrow). Ill have it done so your guy can move in on Wednesday no matter what! (again, I should have been suspicious) He was due here at 2:00 today to finish setting the tile, with grout happening tomorrow. At around 4:00 this afternoon, with me well into a project of painting trim boards, I get a text offering me a great deal. If I take over and finish the tile job, he wont charge me for what hes done so far. On one hand, its a good deal, as he has done a lot of work, and the job is near completion. On the other hand, I hired someone because I wanted the job done, and done right (I can set tile, but Im no tile setter). Furthermore, I have a bunch of stuff to do tomorrow to get the place ready for my renter, whos more than a little pissed off right now that hes been pushed back so many times. So, Im a bit frustrated. Grumpy, even. Tomorrows going to be a long day.
