So I just fired this off to my school superintendent... Hello there! I was at the community forum last night and while I did not get a chance to email you this morning, I did want to express my concern about our teachers salaries. If Im to understand it correctly, theyve only received a 1% raise for the last few years? This strikes me as incredibly counter-productive. Aside from the burdensome cost of training new staff, low retention seriously impact the students and remaining staff. I do understand our budget is far from unlimited but if we cant attract and keep the best teachers we can, were just spinning our wheels and going nowhere. A second issue I wanted to bring to your attention is specific to William Ramsay. I have two children in attendance (Pre-K and special needs 1st grade) and I just found out last night we do not have a science teacher. I cannot express the enormity of my amazement and disappointment upon learning this fact. A proper science education is crucial to building on a childs natural curiosity and ability to critically examine the world around them. To leave such an important aspect of our childrens education to random teachers in the school wearing a second hat they may or may not be trained for is to say that science is simply not important.
