So, I just got back from my doctors appointment. She believes the likelihood is Ive got Flu. Sounds like a simple diagnosis and one she was all too glad to give after being a right snooty cow... Me: Ive been feeling generally unwell for about 10 days, but on Tuesday I couldnt even get out of bed. Same on Wednesday. I feel a little better today, but quite dizzy Doctor: Have you had Flu before? Me: No, Im hardly ever ill, just a cold once a year is all I get Doctor: Is there not anyone at home that you could talk to about illnesses, your Mum perhaps? Me: No, why? Doctor: Well it seems to me you have Flu Me: Right, so what do you recommend? Doctor: Well, the Flu isnt like a cold. It wont just be a few days Me: Okay, so, what should I take, how do I get better, faster? Doctor: This is the Flu. Cough Medicine wont work. Take Ibruprofen Me: Okay, Ill go grab some then, thank you [I assuming thats the end of the conversation] Doctor: There is NHS Direct you know, you can call them and tell them your symptoms and theyll diagnose you [Im annoyed now] Me: Yes, but theyre always wrong. When i call them about my wife they always suggest getting an ambulance to A&E for something minor, or, if its something important they say nothing [This next line from the Doctor is a classic] Doctor: Well the other thing to do is to perhaps buy a book of ailments and read that ... So, this Doctor who has studied for however long it takes is now telling me to buy a book to diagnose myself? She wants me to do anything possible to stay out of the Doctors? I know that people waste a lot of time in the Doctors for nothing all to often, but to tell me to go buy a book, speak to my Mum, look on the internet and generally not come to the Doctors. I think perhaps she forgets where her wages come from. On the way home I thought of the line that I should have used... Okay, so can you please direct me to the book that the NHS prescribe for people to Doctor themselves so that you dont have to? What a complete cow. Changing doctors now!
