So, I quit my job yesterday. (This is long, sorry. But youd need to know all of this) Five years ago I left most of what I had behind and moved to Florida to take care of my Mom. I walked into Tom Thumb on the beach here and they were beginning to build a deli inside the store, so I asked if they needed help, and got hired. It began what would be the worst employment experience of my entire life. This store is practically on the beach and an extremely high volume of customers because the next closest store is 20 miles away. They built this deli with no ventilation, so for all this time each day at some point I went through mild heat exhaustion. And stress. And my blood pressure went up. The physical stress was mind numbing. Position of Deli manager came open and when I showed interest, they said all I would get would be a 10¢ raise. I was all like, Pfft. That wont even cover my taxes; and Id have all that extra responsibility? I dont think so. Not for that low a raise. So they had a job fair and hired this chick off the street… and gave her TWICE…my…pay. This store went through 4 managers in 5 years if that tells you anything. But what made it worst of all was the sheer audacity the administration displays in their clique. If you dont suck up and kiss ass, the whole clique has it in for you. This latest manager drove several people off when he took over. This guy is arrogant and pompous. He is a liar and a manipulator. He bullied several cashiers to tears in his little office. We all know how Tom Liebrich takes to bullies. I was about to blow the whistle on him along with a few others to home office once we gathered enough on him. But do you know what took place? We talked about it on Facebook, and my immediate supervisor printed it out and went behind my back to show it to him. I assume as an attempt to get me fired. Next thing I know, the area supervisor and the regional supervisor had me in the back room. I had cited my immediate experience in catching him red handed lying and trying to manipulate me and a coworker against each other. (He assumed we didnt talk.) They said to me We dont care WHAT youve got on him. If you so much as complain about him for anything again, youre fired. This is getting long, so I will skip over numerous other examples and skip to Wednesday. As I got to work and sat down to clock in on the computer, this manager comes in the office and starts telling me to click a shortcut icon to the time clock application. I didnt see it because it was named something else, but I knew where to go to get it. He kept on at me. Insistant I use the shortcut! I told him to please back off, that I can find it just fine. He started laughing because I appeared flustered and I told him again, to back off and leave me alone. As I stepped out of the office, he clasped my back hard. I turned around with bass in my voice (and I can muster a pretty loud damn voice when I want to), and I said to him Look!! I aint telling you a third time. SHUT UP and LEAVE ME ALONE!! He pulled me into the office and said if I ever talked to him that way again that I was gone. So I said you ever push my buttons again like that, thats how youll GET talked to. He started trying to talk down to me and I got louder. About 8 inches from his face. Milimeters from aggravated assault charges. Well he finally calmed down and apologized, when I spelled out how he was pushing my buttons step by step. He goes, Ok, so this is history. Well leave this behind us, okay? I said Thanks. Sure, thats all I needed to hear man. and went on to finish the day. The next day, yesterday… out of the blue he comes back to where I was in the prep room and smartassedly goes, Um. I dont want to push your buttons, but I noticed you forgot to wash your hands before you put your gloves on a minute ago. (Im all like, ….REALLY???) See, he went out of his way to push my buttons yet again, and start more shit!!! As I clocked out yesterday he slapped me with two write ups. One for insubordination. The other for not washing my hands. That makes the 2nd write up for the hand washing thing, because it happened awhile back when an inspector was there and he took off points for the store. So… lets review. He wants to be free to push my buttons… aka harass me with no repercussions. And they wanna catch me forgetting to wash my hands prior to putting on latex gloves a third time so they can fire me. And if I dare complain to home office, Im fired. I am Tom W. Liebrich. I am not to be intimidated or walked on. And I do not tolerate those who prey on weakers; Bullies. There are gobs of jobs here in tourist town right now, and I know plenty of people. Ive got next months rent already. So hell yes I quit.
