So I rarely post ever on here, especially over controversial topics regarding parental choices, but I feel a really strong need to inform and educate some people about INFANTS and CAR SEATS. I understand its exciting to see your infant grow and develop and reach new milestones, however it is 100% absolutely against the law to face your child forward before they are BOTH 1 year old AND at least 20 pounds. If violated, you will have to pay a minimum $479 fine, or even worse, put your child at risk of serious or fatal injury. It is now recommended, but not required, that children stay rear-facing until the age of two. The reason being, is because infants and toddlers up to the age of two, can not adequately support their heads (which are still proportionately larger than their necks) due to their developing spinal cord and dorsal ligaments. 80% of car accidents are frontally occurring and the other 20% occur at the back of the car. A minor fender bender can actually KILL your infant or severely damage your childs spinal cord leaving them paralyzed, or worse. It is perfectly okay for a childs legs to touch the back seat, and a broken leg is not a life threatening injury in most cases when compared to a brain or spinal injury. Parenting is full of choices that we make in order to properly care for our children. I am in no way trying to tell people how to parent their children, I am just informing some parents as to why it is important to not only follow the law but understand why that law is in place.
