So I want to know what you think about the last study session with - TopicsExpress

So I want to know what you think about the last study session with the Jordan School Board. As we all know, we live in a growing area, and we are in need of building a few new Elementary Schools. With the failed bond, and limited resources, we need to be creative on how we fund new schools. THE ADMINISTRATION brought forth an idea that I think works. Our very conservative Business Manager recommended that we move some funds from one budgeted area to another area in the capital fund. Essentially, we budget each year for funds to maintain properties. Things like roofs and parking lots are often repaired based on the number of years they have been around, instead of exact need. So what if, we took money from the regular scheduled repairs fund, and moved it to the build a new school funds. The Administration believes that by doing this, we can begin to build one new elementary school immediately. This means we may have to wait another year for a roof to be replaced or a parking lot to be resurfaced. Please note: Nothing that NEEDS to be repaired immediately will not be repaired. We all do this in our personal lives dont we? I have a home that is on the edge of needing a new roof. I have postponed that repair, thinking I can get one more year out of the roof. I have actually made five additional years, and I think we will go another. We all understand that we can not do this often, but maybe now is a good time to postpone as scheduled repair that does not need to be done. By acting now, we can get a jump on a critical need. Additional money might come into the district in the future (bond, equalization, growth money, selling property) that might allow us to replace this budgeted money. Also, NO money will be taken from the emergency money, which is about 40 million I believe. So if something came up with one of those projects we could dip into those funds to take care of it. Our Administration is recommending we study it. I believe it is a step forward to show patrons we can wisely use money. Remember, our Board is only voting to explore if this is possible. Despite the positive recommendation of both administration and most board members, to Board Members stand opposed to this action. Peggy Jo Kennett and Lynn Crane. Both refuse to look for creative ways to get things done in our district. This is why I have been so negative against Peggy Jo. Although she has served on the board for 16 years, she can not think outside the box. What do you think? Do you stand with Peggy Jo Kennett and Lynn Crane, and vote to repair a roof that is scheduled but may not need to be repaired? Or do you think we should at least explore the option of building one new school with reallocated funds from the general budget?
