So I was pointed in the direction of the Envision Valley Stream - TopicsExpress

So I was pointed in the direction of the Envision Valley Stream page. https://facebook/EnvisionValleyStream Theyre concerned with making the quality of life better for residents of the village so I thought I would post how the quality of life is declining. My post is below but I encourage others (some already have) to post on their page as well or to find the envision or civic association page for your town as well. As a third generation Valley Stream resident I would like to envision a neighborhood that my children could live in and get from it as much as I have and hopefully contribute something back to it as well. Sadly I dont see that happening and in fact I would suggest my children leave Valley Stream and Nassau County as a whole. There are many issues from quality of life to the never ending raising of taxes both within the village and the county that would be reason enough to leave but after recently viewing our Mayors role in the Nassau County PSA for school zone speed cameras I realize now I live in a town that doesnt care about its citizens concerns or their participation in the democratic process. I know this program is supposed to be about protecting our citizens but please dont try to hide behind that. If this program was clearly aimed at citizen safety it would have been done with the input of the electorate as to how to best protect our citizens. Not surprise them with $80 tickets for driving down roads they have traveled for years. If I were to believe that this was about safety then I wouldnt see the van at the Wheeler Ave school taking pictures of motorists before posted school zone hours. In fact it this was about safety then Wheeler Ave would have a consistent speed zone around it with clearly visible signs. As it is the 3 roads (Corona, Wheeler, and Rockaway) each have 3 different posted school zone speed limits making it even more confusing for drivers in an already highly congested area (where if youre able to do the speed limit when school lets out it would be a miracle anyway). If this was about safety the mobile unit at the Shaw Ave school wouldnt be consistently illegally parked and running, potentially endangering the students at the school. If this was a about safety then the camera on Mill Rd would not have issued tickets on Nov 4, election day ironically, when the students were not in school and therefore not a school day. And finally if we lived in a community where the mayor cared about his residents he wouldnt be so quick to jump on board a program where, to the best of my knowledge, he asked for little input from his community. He might also take the time to find out which notifications are in place in the various school districts, especially in a community that has so many districts and therefore more cameras then other nearby neighborhoods, instead of suggesting the cameras are identified by signs, flashers, or whatever. I think its time Valley Stream residents took their business and tax dollars someplace else after all its too difficult to shop in a community when the cost of getting there might be more than what you bought.
