So...Im in my nightgown, watching TV. Its 9:45pm. Suddenly, there is frantic knocking at my front door. I know that my storm door is locked so I open the door just a little bit to see what the heck is going on. Standing on my tiny front porch, are two women and five children...terror etched on all of their faces! One of the well dressed women begs, Let us in! Please, PLEASE, let us in! There is a big dog loose out here, and it chased us up the street! I can see that they have dragged one of my heavy rocking chairs across the porch to barricade the entrance. A couple of the children are crying. I say, Come inside!, and open the door for them. Both of my cats are interested in what happening, so they are right at my feet. When the children start to come through the door, they see Barnabas and Slinky and freak out! They are afraid of cats too. So, I get my phone and go out on the porch with them. The lady calls her relative at the end of my road. A man down there gets in his car and starts backing up the street. Two of the children are clinging to me now and bawling their eyes out, as one of the women scoots my rocker back across my porch. They wouldnt let me go, so I walk down the sidewalk with them, to the man waiting in the car. They all scramble in and shout their thank yous to me as they head down the street. The whole thing was surreal. As I walk back up my porch steps, I see Slinky and Barnabas on the other side of the storm door, watching all of this with fascination. Exciting night for us. LOL!
