WHMA Friday News Update - WHMABIG95 St. Clair officials have confirmed one person died on Wednesday night after being involved in a two-vehicle head-on collision on Highway 231 near mile marker 233 around 6:30 p.m. 32-year-old Johnny Matthew Link died on the scene. Links wife and daughter were transported to the hospital; their condition is listed as critical. The other driver in the collision, 27-year-old Casey Cromer, was taken to UAB Hospital by ambulance. Cromers condition is unknown. President Barack Obamas approval rating has dropped to an all-time low, according to a new NBC News/Wall Street Journal poll. The poll shows 42% approve of the presidents job performance, a drop of five points from earlier this month. Some polls have him at 37%. The numbers come on the heels of the government shutdown and as concerns over the launch of the presidents signature initiative - ObamaCare - continue to mount. The Etowah County Sheriffs Office have charged James Claude Graggs III, 40, Odenville, with sodomy, rape and incest, all felonies. Allegedly Graggs sodomized a female family member when she was 9-years-old. She is now 18-years-old. The abuse took place in different locations in Etowah and St. Clair Counties. Graggs was arrested in St. Clair County and is being held in the St. Clair County Jail with no bond. A follow-up to that stabbing on a bus in Anniston story from last week. The victim, Katherine Pope is still recovering from the stabbing, allegedly by her former boyfriend, Randall O’Keith Morgan Jr., 23, of Anniston. Pope is still in therapy, treating 17 stab wounds and a damaged nerve in her hand. Morgan is in the Calhoun County Jail on two felony charges and one misdemeanor. Bond set at $10,000, and he is due in court on November 18th. Calhoun County Circuit Clerk Eli Henderson wants Calhoun County residents in 2063 to get the message from 50 years earlier. Henderson has begun a time capsule committee that, later this month, will bury significant and historical artifacts near the Calhoun County Courthouse. The committee plans to bury the capsule at the back entrance of the Courthouse at 10 a.m. on November 15th. State lawmakers who passed Alabamas toughest-in-the-nation law targeting illegal aliens said they arent concerned some parts of the law were thrown out by a settlement between the state and a coalition of advocacy groups. The laws sponsor in the House, Republican Rep. Micky Hammon of Decatur, said he considers it a victory for taxpayers because it retains the right of law enforcement officers to detain those who are present in Alabama illegally. **** SPORTS! **** Coach David Clark on Thursday found his Jacksonville volleyball team trailing top-ranked Guntersville 2-0 in the Class 4A Elite Eight championship, Clark challenged his players. The Eagles responded with a dramatic comeback victory to give second-ranked Jacksonville its third volleyball championship. Donahoo lost to Addison for the Class 1A state title. With the Miami Dolphins needing any kind of score to end a four-game losing streak, two points were plenty. Cameron Wake sacked Andy Dalton for a safety with 6:38 left in overtime, and Miami beat the Cincinnati Bengals 22-20 on Thursday Night Football. Jacksonville State got back on the winning track last week with a 34-14 victory over Tennessee Tech. The Gamecocks will try and win game seven Saturday as they travel to take on winless Austin Peay at 4 p.m., in Clarksville, Tennessee. Auburn quarterback Nick Marshalls status has not changed and an announcement on whether he will play Saturday at Arkansas will likely not arrive until kickoff. Marshall has practiced all week.
