So Im sure no one is surprised how down I feel reading the results page for Pocahontas County and WV and our country this morning. 1/2 a billion dollars were spent by interest groups outside the candidates. The Koch brothers poured money into WV, to unseat the last powerful voice WV had in Washington, Congressman Nick Rahall. We are going to let a huge organization, the Boy Scouts, make huge money at the expense of our own small tourism businesses. Im angry, but Im not sure in which direction. Our news agencies and campaign ads can blatantly lie, and we are allowing huge corporations to be our guide dogs. Coal is gone. Not because a politician said so, but because fracked natural gas and oil are cheaper to produce. If you want to find the people killing coal, look for the white Halliburton or Dominion trucks. Natural gas is here. We just elected a house and senate in our state who will clear the way for this business with no checks or balances. And by clear the way, I mean your well, your lawn, your well, your front door. By clear the way, I mean give these folks tax credits to do so while cutting the education spending that were not willing to foot for our own children. Im sure I will regret posting this on facebook, as debate cant really exist in a country that doesnt agree on the basic facts. Lets lower the voting age to 16, mandate a civics course where the grade is based not on your opinion, but of the veracity of the facts that support it. Maybe then we could start growing a country that truly is the Democracy that is falling all around us. Maybe then I could wake up on a post election morning where my folks didnt win and feel beaten, but not sick. *steps off soapbox*
