So Im watching Boardwalk Empire, Season 2 Episode 11, and I came across something profound -- religious implications. So the priest told this woman a story, and it goes like this: One day, a man was allowed to visit heaven and hell for a day. He spent his first day in Hell. In Hell, everyone was suffering and starving, because they had plenty of food, but the handles of their spoons were too long, so they couldnt lift the spoon to their lips. Their frustration was their torment. Next, the man visited Heaven. And in Heaven, the handles of everyones spoons were just as long. But these people were happy, and their bellies full. Because they were feeding each other. Now this is different from what I was taught at the Catholic schools. At St. Augustine they taught us that Hell wasnt fire & brimstone. It nothing more than the complete separation from God -- a condition SO PAINFUL, that all you experienced was complete and total misery. So I had 2 thoughts: 1. Yet again, we can confirm that NOBODY knows ANYTHING about the afterlife (or even if there is one), nor, in my opinion, do they know ANYTHING about the inner workings of the supernatural (though some boast greater knowledge than the rest of us, based on their prideful interpretations of ancient texts). Theres a saying: Listen to the man who says hes looking for the truth. But beware the man who claims to have found it! 2. Is there really such a thin line between Heaven & Hell. Is Heaven nothing more than Earth without all the ASSHOLES!? You ever seen those dystopic end of the world movies, where theres no law, and assholes join forces and become biker gangs and just start raping and killing people? Could Earth ever become paradise? Could we all abandon personal goals and focus only on the greater good?? Is that really all Heaven is, Earth with infinite compassion??......But anyway, Earth cant become paradise so long as guys like me are walking on its surface.....Im not harmful, per se, but Im certainly not part of the Hive Mind. >:-)
