So, Ive been nominated for the ice bucket challenge which I will - TopicsExpress

So, Ive been nominated for the ice bucket challenge which I will not be participating in, and heres why: 1) the challenge is designed to raise awareness for ALS, but due to the popularity of the ice bucket videos that have come before my nomination, ALS has achieved significant attention. Success, you are aware of ALS and dont need me to tell you about it as if youve never heard of it. 2) dumping water over yourself is a complete waste of what is for some people an exceptionally valuable resource. Last I heard, Ashland was in a drought and was urging people to use water wisely. Furthermore, there are areas in California, just miles south of me right now, that are so low on water that they risk running completely out of clean water by the end of September if it doesnt start raining a whole heck of a lot. It seems disrespectful to me to waste what everyone takes for granted. 3) Im just sick of this challenge. Dumping ice water on yourself has almost nothing to do with ALS. Sure, now youve heard of ALS, but can anyone tell me how watching someone dump water on themselves taught you exactly what ALS is, or how it affects the body, or how it is contracted in the first place? Maybe it did raise your awareness and you did some research on your own, and thats great, but we are aware now and Im sick of seeing these videos. If you want to really do something, donate. That will find research that will actually do something to help people instead of jumping on a band wagon and wasting water to amuse your friends and give you your fifteen seconds of fame. In short, in leu of a video I will be donating to support ALS research, because Id rather help people than jump on an Internet craze band wagon. Also, for anyone who doesnt know already, Im a pretty big buzz kill, and I apologize for that. Dont waste, help people. Thats all I ask.
