So Ive been unusually quiet this football season and normally I wouldnt get into controversial topics on a public forum, but this is something I feel very strongly about. As a fifth year student and an employee of the athletic department, I really hope today starts things moving in a positive direction. Never in my four and a half years has there been so much discontent and negativity in the atmosphere. Its disappointing for fans and I feel terribly for the athletes on the football team. If anyone thinks that these kids dont wake up every day and do their best to better themselves as athletes and as people, you are sorely mistaken. The problem lies within the way the program is viewed and exploited for the sole purpose of increased revenue. Dave Brandon is a business man, not an athletic director. His mistreatment of fans, students, and alumni alike is completely unacceptable. Its about time the university recognized this as a serious issue. So heres to brighter days to come. Tomorrow is a new day and a chance to move in the right direction.
