So Ive started the second week of managing my diabetes. So fat, in one week, Ive gone from a glucose average close to 300 to an average of 231 last week and it appears to be lowering with each passing day. My blood pressure is also getting better: for example, todays reading was 117 over 73. Ive noticed an odd development. My doctor and her RN warned me I would experience changes in my vision as I got my diabetes under control, and that has happened. I am now close to normal in distance vision (though my left eve is still weaker than the right) but my near vision is is worse. Thats almost a reversal of what my vision has been. It feels odd to drive around without looking through my glasses, but I have to do so to see clearly. The one thing that hasnt changed too much is my weight. Im not too concerned about that as Ive been slowly losing weight since the beginning of the year. I only officially weigh myself once a week on Monday, so as not to obsess about it, so I know itll take more time to see results--but I did an informal check on Friday (after Thanksgiving) and I only gained about 0.8 lbs. I do feel a bit hungry at times, but I try to keep protein-rich, low carb foods around to help me get over those times. I miss a few things, but Im learning how to integrate some of my favorite foods into my eating plan. The only hurdles right now are Italian dishes. Im going to have to seriously plan if I want to have even a little bit of lasagna. All in all, my healthier eating plan is not as bad as it may have seemed at first blush. My confidence that Ill be able to do this long term grows every day.
