so one of my facebook friends asked me this(Hey man, Ive been dying to ask you this. Ive been dealing with a whacked-out Schnauzer (foster dog, came from a puppy mill in KY). Heres video of her from this past summer right when I got her. FF to 2:12 through and youll see where she loses it. She cant handle being touched, so its really hard to praise her (which is why Im using food.) Being that shes a rescue dog, we have to spay them and I think that has made her worse. If she was your charge, how would you straighten this dog out? When she gets stressed, her urine pH goes up to 8.5 and she cant hold it which makes her difficult to adopt out.) so I am posting it here so more people can see and maybe it can help you and your dog also, hopefully. firstly let me say that the little dog is not crazy and she is not what I would even consider hyper! I would consider her a playful puppy who needs directions or atleast more clear directions..during the beginning of the video when she started to play and jump, you did nothing to actually stop her,you were using 100% positive reinforcement with no consequences to her bad behavior. for a puppy like that it really wouldnt take much to put her in her place!! I guarantee all she needs is a firm pop on the leash, and you to talk to her in a firm voice.its not a good idea to talk to the dog while training as that tends to get them excited and wanting to play :) instead when you tell her to sit and she doesnt give her a firm pop on a leash and tell her to sit again like you mean it,and if she jumps up show her that you definitely wont tolerate that by firmly pushing her away and put her in a sit position again..it should only take a few times of this and she will start to respect you more. its clear that she already knows the command but she also knows she doesnt have to listen everytime:( you need to change that and make her see that now she has to do what you say and only when she is really good she gets a treat,i feel like she got to many treats in a small period of time while she wasnt really listening, good luck! youtube/watch?v=0_OjOotjV-s
