So John gave me a $1 bill before I left the house yesterday. Ive been speaking all day about how Im gonna spend my first dollar on a slice of pizza in manhattan. Arrived at the airport, checked in, walked over to Pret, only to find a distressed American woman scrambling in her purse for money, $3.23 the till read, her $3 sitting on the counter, along with some penny coins. Shed lost her purse on the way to the airport, three dollars the only change she had in her bag, she said. I slipped my dollar onto the counter as she scrambled through her bag, she never noticed, or at least thats what I thought. I walked away with my coconut water (yum), minding my own business, only to find a teary-eyed woman standing in front of me a minute later, her arms as wide as the world. The most sincere hug Ive ever had. She used the change to buy me an apple, it was all she could get. Her voice was like the kind youd imagine only angels deserved. I hope her cinnamon latte tasted like gold, my apple was all brown in the middle like a banana that had been thrown down a flight of stairs.
