So... Last night was my last night at New Story. It is a cold weather overflow shelter and closes for the season... It will reopen December 1st. My heart hurt to say goodbye to my friends... I worry about the residents I have grown so close to. Some have housing lined up (Praise Jesus) and some will just find another shelter to stay at or a nice little place in the woods or under a bridge. I am grateful not only for the opportunity to serve others but the opportunity to be apart of their lives... to know more and to understand. To have a different perspective. I know that as a person I will love more and try my best to judge less. It is so easy for us to make our mind up about people or to assume. Everyone has a story. These two are pretty much my heroes. They spend the majority of their time (when awake and they rarely sleep) taking care of others. They run the shelter and take care of so many other life issues for the residents as well. For many of them, Steve and Bobby are their only family. For me, they are my super special friends...
