So, Michaels camp counselor stopped Ted this afternoon to speak with him about a situation. A boy used a racial slur toward Michael today. She then told Ted that the boy said, White kids should not play with black kids. Of course, being sensitive toward my son and not wanting this ignorance to touch him, I sat him down to discuss it with him. So, Michael, I hear that someone said something unkind to you today, I broached the subject. Michael replied, Who did you hear that from? Dad heard it from Ms. Tasha, I answered. Well, nobody said anything today, he said. I went at it a little different, Are you sure noone was ugly toward you today and didnt want to play with you? He came back with a story about a little girl saying shut up, but nothing about a boy. I delved a bit more, Did a boy say something about kids with different color skin shouldnt play with each other? His face lit-up. Oh, I remember. I asked, Well, what do you think about that statement? Michael said matter-of-factly, I totally refute that statement. -
