So, Nancy and I went to Danfords for a drink on Wednesday. When we walked in, there was live music - piano. The song playing was At Last Of course I thought of Carol immediately. I could almost hear her velvet vocals dancing on the notes. I was compelled to approach the piano to see who was behind the baby grand opened top. I thought perhaps I might accompany the pianist. As I got closer, I recognized the seasoned artistry of the musician and there sat Wally! The very first pianist Carol every sang with. I remembered how timid she was in the beginning. He did too and admitted to being rough on her, pushing her to get that timing right! And she knew it! LOL. I sang a bit, but Oh, how I missed her there. Wally and I recollected those days gone by at the Elks Cafe in Port Jefferson and mostly Carols flawless style. Remembering was bitter sweet for us both. Singing with Carol was a connective experience that will never be replicated in my life. Those moments, each one of them, remain an unwavering memory in my heart.
