So... One week ago I was driving home from from Denver after going to see the Big Lewbowski at Film On The Rocks. At 1:20 am paramedics responded to my car wreck. I was within a couple miles of my house headed north on 95th street. Before the wreck out the last thing i saw was where i expected to put the car off the passenger side of the road. When i came to i was upside down hanging in my seatbelt, i could barely see (my eye was swollen) and spitting blood. i could see lights blinking on the dash and hear the engine clunking. I attempted to get out with no luck, was in to much pain and had no idea what was going on. i saw headlights hit my dash and felt relieved, having high expectations they would get help. I blacked out again and woke up in the hospital. I had 3 shattered vertebra, in between two i had a bilateral jumped facet (back of one vertebra passed the front of an other). No one has ever had bilateral jumped facet that my neurosurgeon team knows of or has ever heard of and not come out of surgery paralyzed. Im a first! I had the three vertebra replaced with cages, those three sequential vertebra plus one before, and one after (5 total) were fused together. I also have a torn rotary cuff, and bicep on my left. they will not be able to do anything to fix those until im healed from neck surgery. I have managed to stay very positive through all of this, noticing how lucky i am to be alive, and not paralyzed! today i should be released from the hospital. i plan to fly home to va to stay with my mom for six weeks until it is time for my follow up. I want to say im very grateful for all the emergency and hospital staff that has been involved, almost everyone was absolutely amazing and a pleasure to work with. Also thanks to all my friends and family, holy cow i didnt notice how huge and awesome my support group is!
