So TODAY if you have nothing to do I have tons to do at Thrifty Threads & Things Resale Shoppe, I need volunteers willing to listen to what our plan in the store is. People that can understand what we always did does not work! Working with people with disabilities is not always easy. BUT IT IS SO WORTH IT!!! I have a young man who tries to do everything I say. What he doesnt understand is he is doing an AWESOME JOB! People get upset with us about the way we do things. I dont do things the way most stores do. You see it isnt about the store. If you are asking isnt that what it is about. No not in our case. The last board meeting one of our newest members reminded me what it was all about. We are a non profit organization. We are not out to make a fortune. Our mission is to help people with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Not the ones that come and say I AM DISABLED ... because they did it to themselves. The addictions that we have ... can make us who we are. I want to and will help the people that are the way they are because of some of you. Or because they were born to families that love them so much .... they will do anything to help prove...THEY ARE VALUED... YES NOT RETARED OR RETARDS!!!! CLEAN UP YOUR LANGUAGE .... THOSE WORDS ARE NOT ACCEPTABLE!!! March 15 was outr 3rd anniversary. We made it! Has it been easy? Has it been worth .... YOU BETTER BELIEVE IT! You see in the past 3 years ... I HAVE HAD THE OPPOTUNITY TO WORK WITH 8 AWESOME PEOPLE WHO TAUGHT ME HOW TO GET OUTSIDE ON MY COMFORT ZONE AND WORK WITH THESE PEOPLE!!!! This is what I want you to do. Come and help us do what we do and want others to do. One of our daily blessing is to have OUR PROPLE come into the store and we have the chance to change lives. Some come in for a little while. Some love to visit many times a week. These can do what WE at ARC of the LAKE wanted to see happen, LEARN and FEEL VALUED!!! These people come in and they do what they have been taught! THEY KNOW HOW TO ... color code, size clothes, sort and many are the greeters just like WAL MART!!! Has it been easy ... NO BUT IS WORTH IT! That is what God told us. IT WOULDNT BE EASY BUT IT WOULD BE WORTH IT! As I try to go to bed and get a little sleep I PRAY!!!! I pray for PEACE, LOVE AND understanding!!! FAITH, HOPE AND LOVE! For people to give a chance ... to those who may never have a chance. AND FOR US ALL TO BE UNITED AS ONE AND MAKE THIS WORLD A BETTER PLACE FOR EVERYONE!!!! If you are asking HOW YOU CAN HELP!!! Many ways... shop and dont complain about our $2.00 prices. AND GIVE A LITTLE MORE IF YOU ARE ABLE! Dont complain about the store being so packed. WE HAVE OUTGROWN ANOTHER BUILDING! that is because of people like YOU who give till it hurts! When someone in the store doesnt act the way YOU think they should remember they are not you and could have a disabilty. And come a work with or just watch the things we all forget to appreciate ... THE GOD GIVEN ABILITIES TO ... use our sences to LOVE, LOVE and LOVE even more. BECAUSE THIS IS MY DAILY LESSON TAUGHT TO ME BY OUR PEOPLE WITH DISABLITIES!!! Still dont have the picture ... The pain when you are told YOUR CHILD HAS A DISABILITY! Your loved one cant walk, talk or be normal. They are the normal ones. We are the ones messed ... up with the need to have it all and BE PERFECT!!! THANK YOU TO PEOPLE ... WHO HAD A DREAM AND VISION ... TO START THE ARC ORAGANIZATION, WONDERLAND CAMP, THRIFTY THREADS AND THINGS AND SO MANY MORE. WHO KNOW PEOPLE FIRST IS AN ORGANIZATION BUT ALSO SOMETHING THAT WE ALL SHOULD DO!!! PUT PEOPLE FIRST!!! THANK YOU TO PEOPLE WHO ALLOW ME TO WORK .... WITH AND FOR PEOPLE THAT I LOVE AND ENJOY WORKING ... WITH AND FOR!!! THANK YOU ALL AND DID I TELL YOU WE NEED YOUR ... HELP, THINGS AND YOUR MONEY!!!!
