So Yesterday something happened at the store that has inspired me to think about changing the way we do purchasing. I really like the on the spot buying for those who want to come in and go through items with us that they are bringing in to sell. However yesterday we had an incident ( I was not present at the store, I can only relate to what the police and restaurant employees told me) that a couple brought in a car seat to sell. The disturbing part is what we didnt see before hand was this couple pulled up outside not in sight of our store removed their infant child from the seat, placed the child back in the car with young siblings and came into the store to try to obtain money for the seat. Now I am not sure the length of time that passed exactly but it was long enough for the patrons of the restaurant they parked in front of to call the police and the police to arrive for children being left in a car. More detail is not needed to the public but what it has done is triggered my brain to think that I should turn all items into drop offs that will be processed within 24 hours and if a person wants to be there when we go through their items they can make an appointment. I have had several disturbing instances over the 9 years in business where I wondered if the child suffered from items that were being brought in to sell. Formula, brand new toys after Christmas, etc.. but this one really brought it home for me. Some people are so desperate in the moment for cash that they would sell the car seat that keeps their child safe to get fast cash. I do not want to enable a person to do that. If there was a process where they had to wait to be paid maybe people would not be encouraged to do this? Thoughts?
