So a young, brash, irreverent and admittedly very funny comic, told me tonight that I should just give up as I am not hungry, edgy enough or creative enough to ever be a financial success at it or be famous. He then referred to me as a hack and even after a year Im still no more than an amateur and in true passive aggressive fashion, he added no offense afterward. Okay - heres the thing, everyone is entitled to their opinion and after being in show business for many years, many years ago, bad reviews do not phase me. Although I need to explain myself to no one, I feel like imparting some insight. I jumped into comedy about a year and half ago, to see if I could actually get up on stage and make some folks laugh...which as it turns out, I could I didnt do it then, nor do I do it now, to be famous. I do it because it feeds my soul. I do it because its a creative outlet for me and it provides me a way to release some tension and stress in a very honest way. Its true, Im not at the clubs every night of the week, however as is the case of most 40-ish working class folks, Ive got to eat, pay bills, take care of family and generally survive. But when I do get up there, I give it my best and most of the time I get some laughs, some giggles, some smiles and some applause. And all that some adds up to more than enough for me.
