So after being asked abut some pictures, I discovered a 9.5 minute video on our camera that Ethan took unbeknownst to me. At first it was a video of me silently grading and then him scanning the living room....then the screen turned black and you can hear me flipping pages as I grade. I remembered this night..it was like a 11:30 PM. Ethan had woken up and was unable to sleep. I allot 10 PM to 1 AM to do all my school work (teaching and accounting class). Ethan had picked up the camera and took some goof pictures of us together and some of me grading. I looked at some of them, erased some, and gave the camera back to him. I went back to grading, and I remembered ignoring him while I graded, he apparently started filming, got bored, and put it face down on the table......on the video after many minutes of silent flipping Ethan asks Mommy, play a game with me? Listening to it, I am bracing myself to hear me commit a parenting fail. I assume that I am about ignore him and then dismiss him. Instead.....as the sound of flipping pages keeps going (this is basic algebra homework) I ask him what does he want to play. He tells me about a game he is making up so that I wont be bored anymore. We then discuss the time, the fact that I am grading, that we are both thirsty, that he likes trains, and that he thinks he should water the plants. I tell him that he should go sleepy, the whole video goes silent. I thought that we must have gone back to bed. Then the pages start flipping again, and he says MOM! You arent........ and I say Baby, what do you want me to do? He tells me we need to get water for the plants, I ask him how do he and grandma water the plants, he says a pitcher and the video ends. I must have seen the camera and turned it off when we got up to go the sink. I do remember him walking around and watering the plants before we both went back to bed. I then snuck out and finished after he fell asleep.
