So after spending much time shaking the tree wrt Majik Forest, I was always coming up with the question: why has the forest has been closed off? A call to Durbanville police station confirmed that it is not crime as the warrant officer I spoke to was adamant there have been no reported attacks in the last 2/3 years (there was a bike jacking approx 4 years back and a fight between 2 vagrants soon thereafter). A complaint surfaced from a Protea Valley resident regarding a closure of public open space between him and Welgemoed. Closer inspection shows that fences were erected on 5 pieces of public open space that previously allowed pedestrian access between Welgemoed and the valley. When you start mapping fences (green = private fences and nature reserve fence, red = city fences), it paints an interesting picture ...
