So as many of you have seen over the past few weeks, I have been rather vocal about my leaving the Army. Much of it is based on emotional frustration, but the decision to end this chapter in my life has been based on much more substantial sentiments, and thoughts, and has stood out for some time prior to Annual Training (AT). Yes the benefits are a perk, as would the retirement, but when all is said and done, it is the big picture, the one that incorporates more than the end game, but the game itself. Priorities have developed in my life, and those priorities only will be hindered rather than enhanced. My main priority is a family, yes, with a kid or two. It is about my history career, and the need and desire for change in my life. If we as sentiant beings remaining in park or neutral, we will fail to grow and mature. For as every flower needs new dirt for nutrients, so every humans needs change for maturation. The Army has been a wonderful experience, even though I moan and groan about it, and often. But the time really has come to move forward. Time to consider being a father, a community activist, a better friend, brother, son, and uncle. I have served my country, fulfilled my civic duty, and can now lay the sword down to forge it into a plow. I have made some great friends, ones that I consider my extended brothers and sisters. They will all have a special place in my heart. This is something that no one can take away from me, it is mine, a defining part of my life, and who I am. So now, to follow the advice of General MacGarthur, and simply fade away as a Soldier. Thank you all for the years of support while I endured this great saga, many of you have weathered the storms of my anger and frustration, but also of my joys, and for that, I truly feel comforted and blessed to have you in my life. So with 10 months left, I hope to make the best of it. Hard to believe that it will be over soon, but a new chapter awaits to be written.
