It doesnt represent any breakthrough in technique, nor was it meant to represent or appease any deities. Likely, it was used to wrap a chieftan for burial, as it was found buried in the Altai Mountains in southern Siberia. Now let me drop a knowledge bomb on you. This is, in fact... THE Pazyryk Carpet (c. 350 BC)!!! Take a second and pick your jaw up off the ground. Okay. Now this is the oldest surviving pile carpet ever. Ever! Also, this carpet contains, on average, 225 knots per square inch, resulting in the entire carpet having roughly 1.25 million knots.
