So, because of the time difference, my friends on this continent are getting it early ... Today my oldest son turns 23. He came along during a transition in our lives ... the end of a year of traveling the country, carefree and full of wanderlust, the beginning of our first real job. He was like a gentle breath of Indianapolis spring air, gentle from day one. His first cries came in perfect quarter note time ... which was a precursor to the beautiful music he would make from that point onward. He was always curious, wise beyond his years, he put together puzzles and information quicker than any babies I knew. As he grew, he became the best first born son, the best big brother, the best first homeschooled kid, my knight in shining armor ... my confidant and my comforter so often during his young life. Wesley Lawton ... you are truly amazing, unique, brilliant and a tremendous human being. I could not be more proud of you, more amazed by you, and more challenged to be a better person because of you (and your siblings). You have given me the gift of motherhood ... something I thought Id never be good at, but wouldnt trade for the world. And then ... when I thought you couldnt get any more amazing, you brought home a beautiful, intelligent and thoughtful young woman to be my first daughter in law. Words just cant encompass all the beauty and wonder you have added to my life. Happy Birthday, Son of mine. I cant wait until we can again celebrate face to face. But until then, know how very, very much I love you.
