So can someone explain to me why Derek Jeter is considered the baseball god? He did nothing spectacular. Sure he was the face of the Yankees, but why? His statistics werent great, his defense was atrocious and his off field antics arent any better. He was an egotistical womanizer who is famous for giving his conquests a Derek Jeter gift bag as they left his NYC apartment. Sure Arod has his off field scandal, but what about Nomar. He was the other SS in the Big 3 and had better career numbers than Jeter. And what about a local, regional player, Barry Larkin? Larkins career statistics are almost identical to Jeters...and was a better defender...but would anyone say Larkin is as good or better than Jeter? I doubt it. Ive never liked Jeter and dont expect that to change. Sure Arod had his scandal, but when he came to the Yankees he wasnt known for any of the steroid issues. He was a huge acquisition and one of the best SS in MLB at the time and one of the best to play the game. However, he gets moved to 3B because a defensively inferior Jeter refused to move to 2B. I started this rant in the office this morning and was steered toward Keith Olbermans rant from last night and when I did, he had said exactly what I was saying.
