So ends today one of the longest, loudest, most liveliest election - TopicsExpress

So ends today one of the longest, loudest, most liveliest election Ive experienced in my entire life. The euphoria Ive witnessed today on my timeline reminded me of the one we had in 98, when we all thought that theres going to be significant change with the old man stepping down, only back then there was no social media, no #taglines. It was all real, or so it seems. What happened afterwards was far from what we all hoped for: disappointments after disappointments goes on and on, the ghost of the new order shadowing us everywhere, everyday. The change that we hoped for within the system stayed the same but with different leaders and rhetoric. Since then, I grew more and more skeptical when it comes to Indonesian politics. And I believe that Im not the only one with such feeling. Today, I applaud those who have shown their utmost efforts on both side, not only through their hard works campaigning their champion day and night (both on line and off line), but also restraining themselves from bashing their fellow countrymen who has different views from them (well, at least some of you did). I also applaud those who bravely stated their opinion and keeping their own stance by holding on to their political believes, by not supporting both candidates, amidst the pressure from both sides to pick a side and avoid being neutral. Believe it or not, these people are the ones who kept us from being crazed hooligans. Their voices, however unreasonable or unpatriotic, were the ones that kept us thinking and stayed on our toes. Theyre the ones that kept us from falling into conformity, and believe me, it is easy to feel comfortable when were among like minded fellows. These neutrals, like it or not, are a part of the system were all in, and each one of us were akin to bolts and cogwheels within a machine, and we all served our functions well. So friends, rejoice the fruit of your hard work today, whatever your political alignments are, so wed be ready for the hard work ahead. And as always, question your comfort. Cheers!
