So few things in the media about tonights game; 1) Gerrard set to be rested/dropped. 2) Not just the skipper but Sterling and others too to be rested as BR looks to the game with Chelsea and plays a weakened team. Im gonna be right miffed if this turns out to be the case, firstly playing anything but our strongest team is very defeatist, seems to say were just accepting defeat before a ball is kicked, we are Liverpool FC for christs sake!! Weve waited years to get back in to the champions league and nights like this and were just gonna roll over, or at best not give it our all?!! And what about the thousands upon thousands of travelling fans who have shelled out hard earned money to give the team 100% backing?!! Id be fuming if i was one of them! And if its just Stevie thats left out? Well i can see the case for it, i just dont agree with it, whether its dropped or rested. No one is playing well and it could be construed that hes getting singled out. No doubt itll be explained as rested if he is left out, but hes just retired from England duty to avoid this kind of thing. Also the timing is gonna look iffy, the week after he spoke out on his contract situation hes left out of the team, some will say the club/manager is flexing their muscles to show him hes not undroppable or as important as he once was. I still believe hes worthy of his place in the team on current form and he can cope with the schedule, and to bench him for a game of this magnitude will not go down well with the skipper, and you never know could even signal the beginning of the end for him? The talk of him leaving the club is baffling to me, may not be the all-action player he was, but still a fantastic player and its far too early to be rationing his games in my opinion, at least not games this big!! Whats your thoughts folks? YNWA (tony)
