So followers of Tom Voltaire Okwalinga have been convinced that the real reason Amama Mbabazi wont give up his bid for the presidency in 2016, is because hes aware Yoweri Kaguta Museveni will not stand? OK I also know for sure that Yoweri will not offer himself again. But that doesnt mean theres a vacancy to be filled by any gambler! I can see Uganda after Museveni becoming in some ways like Kenya after its first post-independence leader Jomo Kenyatta. Edward Ssekandi may not become a Daniel arap Moi, but Amama is very likely to end up like a one Mbiyu Koinange who served in various portfolios (education, foreign affairs and presidents office for over a dozen years) in Mzee Kenyattas government. Media hyped Koinange, everyone was made to believe he was Mzees right-hand man, his anointed successor. But where did he end? When the old Kenyatta was in his last days, Koinange remained by his side, waiting for the last breath - to declare himself president. And then? Just when he had moved away for minutes, Mzee passed on and before he returned to confirm, Mama Ngina had contacted Moi and asked him to take over. Koinange was thrown out of government and lived for three more years. What did Koinange do wrong? Why didnt members of the first family trust him enough? Koinange never believed that the presidents wife would have a bigger say than cabinet ministers combined. So today we have a member of the first family serving in the office of prime minister; I mean the first lady who is also minister for Karamoja affairs under the prime ministers office. How shes treated by the PM will determine whether or not the PM in his bid to become president will get the blessing of the president and his family. We know very well how prime minister Amama treats Mama Janet in that office. Amama will certainly not succeed Museveni. And Mama Janet unlike Mama Ngina, has had a political career. She will step in should there be no other person to fill her husbands shoes and protect interests of her family. She went to Ruhaama in 2006 when there was no serious person to take on and oust a former ally Augustine Ruzindana who had joined the bad side. Janet is tested. She will come in should there no no other serious person within NRM. Amama has been written off, so has Tvos hollow talk.
