So, having now watched the latest 24 mini-series my feeling is this: Thrillers work in the short term, but if you want us to be interested in a character for almost a decade you need to pay attention to his inner life, not just the bad guys hes fighting. Bauer has been tortured, betrayed, bereaved. He should be way more messed up than he is. The format of 24 requires us to have 24 hours in the life of Jack Bauer. And thats it. You dont need a world spanning conspiracy, you dont need terrorists, idiot fake IT or peril that isnt perilous because we know Jack will never be in real jeopardy. You can get away with the James bond stuff in a two hour film, not in an extended series. They should have turned it into a drama with hints of violence a long time ago. As it is, this is just a bit dull.
