So he returned from following him, and took the pair of oxen and sacrificed them and boiled their flesh with the implements of the oxen, and gave it to the people and they ate. Then he arose and followed Elijah and ministered to him. (1 Kings 19:21) ~ Now thats what you call commitment! Elijah had defeated and destroyed all the prophets of Baal...thats kind of an understatement, he made a fool of them and then destroyed them. (If you dont know the story, go read it in 1 Kings 18) Well, he took off, was hiding in a cave, and God came and spoke to him. He was told to go, anoint two kings, and anoint Elisha to succeed him as prophet. When Elijah came to Elisha, he was in the process of plowing his field with 12 oxen. Elijah came, anointed him, and began the two began to leave. Elisha stopped Elijah and said...let me go back, kiss my parents goodbye, and well be good to go! He went back, kissed his parents, but didnt stop there. Elisha went back took the oxen he was plowing with, slaughtered them, and gave it all to the people to eat. Wait a second...what about the field? It still has to get plowed! At least he still has his plow. Oh wait, he cut up his plow and burned it to cook all the oxen. Now why in the world would he do that? Didnt Elisha know that his field had to get plowed so hed have food at harvest? What is he doing? Hes FOCUSed on God and not turning back...thats what! He had no backup plan, he had no other choices. Elisha was fully committed, fully FOCUSed on what God was calling him to do without a means of escape! Are that focused, the dedicated to the calling of God in your life, or do you leave yourself options in case you really dont feel comfortable? How often do we do that? A phenomenon going on right now is lack of commitment from all ages. So many dont sign up, dont commit to some sort of event or ministry simply because they dont know if they really want to do it or not. I might be uncomfortable, it might be too hard, I may not have any friends come, something else may come up, etc. When it comes to Christ, we must be sold out, fully committed, no turning back, no other options! We must do that because this world is lost and in need of the HOPE that can only come from Christ! We are called/commanded to take that HOPE to this world...no other options! Time we get all in! #hopedoes
