If you, as animal rescuers (or really, anyone) come across situations that involve the elderly, you absolutely need to report this info to me so that we can investigate the situation. I need a name or an address. I need to know what the situation is. I shouldnt have to look through your stories about the animals that you saved to find out that there was an elder in need as well! You, collectively, are not the experts in this field unless you work for our agency. Thinking that you can solve the problem without State involvement is probably not going to happen. I have done this work for 9 years; trust me when I tell you this. Thinking that they will be okay, or that they will accept help from you to the extent that the assistance is needed, is foolish. You may not be mandated reporters, but you should be passing along the information because its the right thing to do! Do what you do know how to do, and let us do what we do best.
