So, in my quest to be the best uncle ever, I like to pose academic challenges for the young people in my life. My philosophy is to make these difficult challenges. hold the crown above their heads and dare them to grow into it. This time, Im worried that I may have set the bar too high and want input from the teachers and parents among my FB friends. The challenge for an 8 year old and a 9 year old: I have given/ sent each of them a 20 Turkish Lira bill and a 5 Euro note. If they can send me a well- written letter explaining how much they are worth in dollars and how they came to that conclusion, I will send them the amount in dollars. Also, if they can explain who the guy is on the front of the Turkish money and why he should be so honored, I will double the amount. Finally, I have told them each about the other and encouraged them to work together on the problem despite living in different states. Is the exchange rate too much for people still learning multiplication? Can you learn about Gamel Ataturk in the the third grade?
