So in the early morning hours today, I was pulled over in my neighborhood, in front of my house because I fit the description. Not because of the color of my skin, but because my car ACTUALLY fit the description of a suspect the police were looking for (I saw the car speeding out of the neighborhood). But when the officer approached, I had to make a decision. Would I: (a) Be respectful and let the process play out; or (b) Keep it real and let the officer know how wrong he was and how I had a right to be where I was. Because you have not read about this in the paper (or sports blogs talking about former UofL athletes), obviously I went with option (a) and everything worked out for me. I didnt want to be the subject of a Dave Chapelle When Keepin It Real Goes Wrong skit. The officer turned out to be sincerely apologetic and offered to take me to lunch for the mistake (okay, maybe I made the lunch part up but he was extremely sorry for pulling me over :) ). I guess the whole thing is when we are confronted with a situation, we cant always dictate how someone else may act. But we can ALWAYS make decisions on how WE act. Theres a time for everything and everything under the sun. We just need to know what time it is.
