So it seems that half of Scotland is gutted about the result while the other half is mildly relieved. I have to confess myself somewhat disappointed - things looked as if they were on the verge of something new and exciting and the optimism, passion and dynamism of a large chunk of the populace was definitely new. Instead I woke up to business as usual and the resignation of our First Minister. But I do wonder if an independent Scotland would have lived up to its reputation. Unlikely, in my opinion. Human nature is still the same north of the border as it is in England. We would still have devious politicians, greedy bankers, dishonest media-brokers and the rest, offset only by a certain element of greater accountability and a parliament more in tune with the politics of the people. For Scotland to truly be a changed country, human nature needs to change, and that requires a work of God. (For the atheists among you feel free to sigh in contempt at this point!) It is my conviction that a revival of the Christian faith, fuelled by the Holy Spirit, would result in a revolution of righteousness, which would change Scotland in ways which would blow mere independence out of the water. Meanwhile, lets insist on getting these new powers and then lets make the most of them, and build on the passion and energy of the campaigners on both sides to do whatever we can to change Scotland for the better!
