So...its a little before 5 am...cant really sleep..watching Law & Order : criminal intent...which got me thinking about the intentionally criminal attitude of the law enforcement system and its collusive profiling practices against black people. I have been racking my brain all day trying to recall in my lifetime any instances of black, Latino, Asian, etc. police officers shooting an unarmed white boy in a suburban community, whether he committed a crime or not., i have no recollection of that...(though i have many memories of folks like fred hampton, the Africa family, amadou dialo, sean bell, etc.) Then there is the issue that many suburban/ small town/ rural police forces often dont have many people of color anyways...which Im sure could become a tangential conversation on many levels..but back to my point..we are living in a time where rope has been replaced by bullets, and procedure varies depending on the demographic. Shooting w/ deadly force, (now the unabashed default response, generally justified by some specious idea of why I just had to shoot that nigger. ) was supposed to be a last resort, not a first response. A person with their hands in the air, already shot does not really pose an eminent threat, ( especially if one is unaware of any previous allegations) and could probably be more easily subdued than the racist police system which continues its predatory ways.
