So, just an observation about Communism in Vietnam.There are many images of Ho Chi Minh, ( Uncle Ho) especially on government administration buildings. Every morning the loudspeakers blare national songs and current events (political propaganda). Ive not seen a soul paying even a slight bit of attention to these ramblings that can go on for at least a half hour. Ive been to Cambodia and Laos, also Communist countries, neither were as visibly loyal as here in Vietnam. But the real truth (at least to me) is that Vietnam is the most capitalistic Communist country in the world. The almighty dollar is their ideology and their religion. Hustling the tourists is a daily ritual, from extreme pestering to currency flimflam, there are a myriad of techniques to separate westerners from their money. The rumor is that Vietnam is a cheap travel destination. In reality, its more expensive than Id ever imagined.
