So last night I attended an event in Okinawa City that had to be one of the strangest parties I have ever been to, almost up there with the Around the World block parties we used to throw at The Utah Shakespearean Festival! It was in a really groovy bar down a side street. The whole thing almost sounds like the set up for a joke. You see there was this Japanese guru in a Moroccan gandora who, from what I could tell, was talking about peace and love and ya know, the usual things gurus talk about. I, of course, was the only one who couldnt speak Japanese (cringe) Then there was a pole dancer. Yup. She was pretty amazing. We did a vegan food meditation. Seriously, I couldnt believe you could get a whole bar of people to have food on their plate and silently sit, not eating it, and instead contemplate their love for friends and family! But loads of incense and sitar music can make you pretty willing to meditate. Or at least, in my case, try to meditate. So anyway, there was another talk about peace and stuff, but after awhile I got frustrated not being able to understand anything and feeling like I was putting people out by asking what the guy was saying so I slipped to the bar and ended up hanging out with the awesome chicks behind the bar, just giggling and being handed shots of tequila (Oh my head!) until the event came to a close. I came out of it with new friends, contact with the guru to do an article about food meditation, loads of laughs, a strange sense of global consciousness and a giant hunger to eat something that used to walk around! So yeah....how was your Wednesday evening?
