So last night a band rolled up after having had the gig in the bag - TopicsExpress

So last night a band rolled up after having had the gig in the bag for months. They were asked in advance to try and shift as many tickets as possible - not as a pre requisite to playing, not as a form of payment, but more simply to help me as a promoter cover costs. No pressure but a common acknowledgement that i was supplying venue, engineers, promotion etc and they would supply a good band with a good push. They didnt sell one ticket! Now reservations aside on how hard the band tried to sell tickets, Im not blaming the band so much as i see they did make some form of effort, but when i consider the amount of words that come in support of the Underground on facebook etc, it does stick in the throat when i wonder how much of it is lip service and how much is genuine recognition that the local scene needs support ... By no means was it a total loss as many bands go that extra yard to make it happen, but it begs the question - do you really support the scene at a local level or is it just your way of looking cool on social media? Only you have the answer to that one. Everyone is quick to jump down a promoters throat if theres something you dont like - but i hope youll agree that supporters of live music just need to work that extra 5% and then we possibly wont see so many venues closing nationwide.
