A spray painted sign shows the water has been shut off on a blighted building in #Detroit. This past spring the city started ramping up on an aggressive water shutoff program to cut the water to thousands of families in the city who were behind on their water bills. Fayette Coleman, a 65 year-old retired union worker, being one of them. One winter the house next to Fayette’s home was vacated, the pipes were immediately stripped creating a giant water fountain inside the house. She called the #water company but nobody showed up. The water kept spraying through the broken windows and the ice crawled through the fence attaching itself to Fayette’s basement window, eventually connecting the two houses with a giant iceberg. #usa #watercrisis #right2water #DetroitWater #azdarya
