So last night was surreal, getting a chance to speak at a Univeristy wasnt in my Things To Do list for 2014, but one of the best experiences of my life. The amount of interest and support shown was eye-opening. I guess when you bury your nose in work, you dont get a chance to look up & see what youve done. On a everyday basis, I have to deal with client expectations and the overall reality of their industry. On a everyday basis, Im sorting through business plans, generating press releases, media pitches, and creating bios. On a everyday basis, I go through personal issues, Im constantly there for my mom whos diagnosed with ALS and helping my dad. Im there for my parents every single day and behind all the recent success and smiles, my mom is always on my mind. My speech at UCR was about what I do as a business, but more importantly what Ive done to get to this moment - The personal and business struggles. Presenting this speech to people I hardly knew was a tough one, not because it was a 40 minute task, but because it was personal. The feedback, questions, and inquires from students once the speech ended was humbling. So I stayed after answering questions one-on-one, meeting students for over an hour and got the chance to hear some interesting projects & ideas. But when a student asked me Doing all this, how did this affect your personal life with friends? Honestly I went around the question at that moment - Bill Clinton wouldve been proud. Thinking about it now, theres friends that I invested a lot of my time, never understanding how much I sacrificed and how much I did for them...and...Theres friends with patience knowing I couldnt be around often, understanding what I was doing isnt easy. With so much on my plate, I promise to make it up to those with patience once this year is over... Pinky-promise. The students at the UCR seminar got a glimpse on my major plans for 2015, but really got to know what Ive been through. I just want to inspire and just try my best in everything I do - My best is all I can give. A big thank you to Monique Palma, Crystal Morgan, Jenna Vazquez, and Mark Funk Garcia for attending. You The Real MVP.
