So let me get this straight. There are some people in this world who have a problem with parents publicly shaming their children when they totally deserve it (this part is key). What. Why? Shame is one of the most powerful behavior modifiers in this world which can otherwise turn a shitty ass-hat of a human being on the path to self destruction (or worse, self destruction with collateral damage) into a humble individual with a (real) sense of humility (not that shit you think you have just because you felt bad about doing something one time but did it anyway). But yeah, sure, lets just talk to the little piece of shit who thinks they know everything including but not limited to the fact that whenever they do something wrong they will only have words spoken to them (either gently and mildly, or threateningly with no follow-through). Yes, yes, I know. You can talk to them and shame them without having to do it publicly. But that shit is predicated on the notion that the child will feel shame in the way you want them to in a one-on-one (or group intervention) situation. It is also contingent on the precipice that they A) give a shit and/or B) are a decent human being to begin with. Ill wrap this up with a Louis CK-ism. Of course, of course, you should weigh the consequences of bad behavior appropriately. But maybe... as a parent, you need to recognize that your child is becoming a little monster and that its time to record (and put onto YouTube) you smothering them in their sleep with a pillow.
