So, lets say there is a kid named Mike. Mikes dad is in prison do he lives with his mother and step-father. His step-father hits Mike and is verbally abusive to him. Mikes mom is working all the time and doesnt notice whats going on or doesnt want to notice. Finally at 16 he hits his step-father back and gets kicked out of his house. Because of this Mike drops out of school. He Mets a beautiful girl named Kim at a party. They start dating and within a year Kim is pregnant. Mike wants to be a good dad so he gets a job at a small neighborhood grocery. Kim gets kicked out of her house when her parents find out she is pregnant. Mike robs the store where he works for money for a motel room. He gets caught and gets six months in jail. He gets out to find Kim living with another man. He and the man fight. A neighbor calls the police. Mike goes back to jail on a probation violation. He never meets his son, Chris. He joins a gang while in jail and is shanked by a rival gang member. Kim moves in with another man. The first time he hits Chris she pretends not to see and convinces herself it wont happen again. Chris goes to bed imagining what it would be like to hit his mothers boyfriend back. This is our penal system.
