So many emotions and thoughts since getting my government-issued - TopicsExpress

So many emotions and thoughts since getting my government-issued drivers license yesterday, among them this: I was beyond busy when I was a student at my beloved Mountain View High School. In addition to classes and clubs, I did choir, theater, speech and debate, student government, school newspaper, some sports (hey, badminton is a sport!), while working for the local community paper, Mountain View Voice. And since I couldnt drive, sometimes I took the bus. Often I got a free ride. As I recall most everyone drove me around: friends, classmates, parents of classmates and friends, teachers, administrators, volunteers. And of course my family, my Lolo (grandfather) and uncle Rolan Salinas. I was like Driving Miss Daisy. Thank you to my family of educators, classmates and friends at Mountain View High School and Mountain View Voice for giving me a ride and being a part of this journey. Among my drivers: PJ Hyland, Rich Fischer, Arvind Murthy, Mary Moore, Susan Sweeley,Daisy Moore-Ketelsen, Nathalie Wade (and her mom Gail Greenstein Wade and her sister Ariel Wade), Andy Michael Paul, Renalyn Juanola and her mom, Laleh Coté and her mom, Leah Suelter and her mom Catherine Falkenhagen, Alexandra Coonce, Sonny Batra, Ashley Whipple Towner and her parents Sandie and Art, Julie Baker Broms, Lilia Lopez, Shea Anderson, Carol Kilmer, Shannon TenBroeck, Jason Burwen, Scott Scotty Kim Angela Robertson Bazzi, Annie Schmidt, Karen Lee Willemsen and her husband Matthew, Anne Gelhaus, Robyn Israel, Judie Block, Tish Mena-Escrupulo and her mom, Tammy N Carmelo Kintanas mom, and so many more people. And special mention to Georgia, whos not on Facebook. She was a special secretary to the assistant principals. She gave me many rides. Georgia is soft-spoken and quite shy. But as I am wont to do, I asked her many questions during our rides. During one of them, she told me about her experience in an internment camp. Though shes a U.S.-born American citizen, she was interned during World War II because of shes of Japanese descent. I will never forget that ride.
