So, many of you have asked me why have I gone back to school. A year ago I applied for a position in the student disabilities office at Gonzaga. I had all the qualifications in spades - but no degree. I didnt even get a chance to interview. You apply online and the computer kicked me out. So after 25+ years of interpreting, I told Dave I think its time for a life change. I still love interpreting and will prob continue on a limited basis but Im tired. Im feeling more pain in my right wrist and elbow these days. Massage was wearing me out too. So I closed my massage practice and fit classes into my interpreting schedule at Whitworth. I had only a few classes under my belt so I was basically starting from scratch. But eating the elephant one bite at a time, I will transfer to EWU winter quarter to a program that gives me the opportunity to defend career experience, knocking out a third of my degree. If all goes well, I will graduate spring of 2016 with a BA in communications and a minor in disability studies. I never realized how difficult this journey would be - facing my math demons and getting my brain to think critically again but I am so grateful for my wonderful, supportive husband and my fantastic kids. I am going to have the loudest cheering section at graduation! Im already planning my grad party and yall are invited! Spring, 2016. Save the date.
