So much for my retirement. Something odd happened to me last night, and it cheered me up. Some long-haired dude came into my store, bought some things, and then instead of saying, Thank you, take it easy, or something to that extent, he just stared at me for a moment. My first thought was, why me? Must I always attract the screwballs? I meet some characters in the middle of the night, and this one I also judged to be such a one. He looked like Arlo Guthrie from around 1967. The guy just stared at me for a bit; wasnt sure what he was turning over inside his head while he smirked, but he was taking his time about letting me in on the secret. Finally he said, Say, you like music? I didnt have to think that one over; who doesnt like music? I told him yes. Terrific. Hold on a second, Ill be back, he tells me. Once again I thought, why me? Whats he going to do, round up some Salvation Army Band he smuggled in the back of his trunk? He came back with a CD in his hand. Here, try this one on for size. he hands me the CD, and I can see theres a picture of the Arlo-looking guy on the cover; Its an EP I made, me and my ukulele. I couldnt help but smile; who can resist an EP of homemade uke music? I told him, That sounds cool. Ill definitely try it on for size. Arlo smiled, and left my store. Later on at my break I took Brenton Wood out of the CD player, and popped in the uke EP. I expected to hear something somewhat Hawaiian and strumming. What I heard was actually melodic, soothing, instrumental, and almost a bit harp-like. Wow! I said to myself. I didnt know uke music could sound so dang interesting.
